Happy New Year!

All of the teachers here at MPS are looking forward to the second half of the school year with your children.  We cannot wait to see how much the students learn and grow!  Throughout the month of January, the students will be participating in some assessments which will help their teachers set goals for the rest of the school year.  Our winter MAP session will begin on January 14th.  EL students will also be participating in ACCESS testing in January and early February.  Please help your children to get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast before they come to school.  It is also important that students are at school on time each time, during testing seasons, but also every day.

Again this year, we will continue to implement a child sexual abuse prevention program in our schools to support Public Act 097-1147, also known as Erin’s Law. Throughout the Month of January, Medinah Primary School students will participate in the Child Protection Unit through our current Second Step Curriculum. Although the focus is on child sexual abuse prevention, students will learn skills and rules applicable to a wide range of unsafe situations.  The YWCA will be sharing their Child Assault Prevention (CAP) program with 1st graders on January 13th.

Please take a moment to complete the 5 Essentials Survey at https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/.  As a school, we use this information to reflect upon our practices and make decisions for school improvement.

Thank you for continuing to share your children with us each day.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me or your child’s teacher.

Sincerely,
Melissa Langietti Principal, Medinah Primary School
