FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
March 23, 2020

Dear Parents, Staff and Community Members,

In an effort to keep you informed, I have several important items to share. First of all, thank you for your patience and cooperation as we navigate these uncharted waters. I can’t thank everyone enough!

You may have heard that the Governor has extended the required closings through April 7. So here is our schedule until then:
  • Tuesday, March 24 through Thursday, March 26, Remote learning days as scheduled.
  • Friday, March 27, No school related activities.
  • Monday, March 30 – Friday, April 3 is Spring Break
  • Monday, April 6 teachers will check-in with students.
  • Tuesday, April 7 will be a remote learning day as we have had last week and this week.
  • Wednesday, April 8 classes will resume as usual.
We asked you to complete a brief survey regarding our “e-learning” efforts. I very much appreciate the positive responses and the constructive feedback. Some of the suggestions were excellent but will take a while to implement. We are already having conversations about what happens if this goes longer than April 7. For this week and the two days after Spring Break, the program will be pretty much the same. Here are a few things we want to emphasize beginning immediately:

We had a few comments that there was too much work and a few that there was not enough. As parents, please feel free to make a decision to reduce the work. And let your teacher know about the situation. We want students to continue their learning; we do not want them to be stressed out. Feel free to decide what works for your child.

One clear positive in the survey was that students like seeing their teachers. We have shared that information with the teachers – keep up the videos with the personal touch, the checkins, the read alouds and so forth.

Thank you again for working with us to be partners in your children’s learning.

Sincerely,
Dr. John K. Butts
Superintendent
